DCDC (Douglas Community Development Company) was created to facilitate community-led regeneration at a grass-roots level.

DCDC is a SCIO (Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation); Reg. No. SC050572, registered in November 2020 but established as a Steering Group in 2019.

Working closely alongside Douglas Community Council, DCDC places solid community engagement at its core and acts as a consultancy on behalf of the wider community, taking forward priority community projects which have a positive social, environmental and economic balance.

Our Trustees share a passion for the place we live and work and aim to build on that passion in order to secure a future for the area and its inhabitants.

We operate according to the following charitable purposes:

  • the advancement of citizenship or community development by supporting other community-based organisations in response to local needs
  • inspiring residents and young people in the community and offering volunteering opportunities which will help to relieve need
  • advance health, well-being, education, employability, aspiration and community cohesion
  • the advancement of arts, heritage, culture or science by preserving, for the benefit of the general public; the historical, architectural and constructional heritage that may exist in and around the community in buildings

Additionally, we have adopted the following development principles in relation to our work:

  • strategic (acting in response to local needs but contributing positively to the solution of regional, national and global issues)
  • sustainable (economically, environmentally and socially responsible activity)
  • informed and engaged (ensuring our project portfolio is shaped, endorsed and supported by local stakeholders and beneficiaries)

Our initial work is being directed by the 2016 Douglas Community Action Plan which was commissioned and led by Douglas St. Bride’s Community Group.

This web resource is managed by DCDC and they also played an active role in the development of the Inside Out Douglas App. It is active across a number of areas including the development of a new Pavilion at Crabtree Park and securing a sound future for the Douglas Arms Hotel.
