Douglas, Lanarkshire.

dcdc logotype

Douglas may be a small village, but it’s difficult to imagine another place which has played such a significant part in the political and religious life of Scotland, and whose influence has been felt so far beyond Scotland’s borders.

Unique and Undiscovered.

Situated on the right bank of the Douglas Water, the village of Douglas stands on the A70 Edinburgh to Ayr road, two miles west of the M74, at 700 ft ASL.

It probably owes its origin to the settlement of the war-like Douglases in the eighth century and what is witnessed today is the sum total of 1300 years and more of the challenges and opportunities offered by life in this valley since.

The long, narrow and winding Main Street, with its closes and wynds, bespeaks its antiquity while the valley offers itself up as a spectacular playground for all.

Be you local, visitor or passer-by this site hopes to provide you with the most up-to-date and relevant information about this unique and undiscovered place.
